Usually waste collection is door-to-door or street dumpster based, and the indipendent collection in skyscrapers could be a bit outside these organic collection systems. Tall buildings, in fact, usually have a chute in every floor, so that waste bags can be thrown directly in the shaft without needing to get down to the street dumpster; then, waste get directly to containers located at the lowest floors of the building. The application of PAYT management system requires the adaptation of this type of waste collection to the tracking system. As explained in the section about PAYT systems for waste management, waste tracking is the only way to minimize mixed waste production. The locking system of the chutes must then be automated and managed by a RFID reader with optional 1D/2D scanner: thus, the locks open only with a tagged and identified bag, which can also be associated to the different waste fractions.

The control over the chute opening allows to know the amount of disposed waste in real-time. As a consequence, a fair taxation based on the produced waste would be possible. Furthermore, even the disposed fraction could be controlled, so that waste separation would be possible even in tall buildings. Evidently, in order to successfully integrate the system, every flat and household must receive waste bags with RFID tags - such as Garbage IP68 per sacco plastico, il tag in carta per sacco cartaceo o il tag bio per l’umido – for every waste fraction the administration requires to collect.
